ITDatabase Launches Powerful Research Product For Tech Industry Marketing and PR Pros

SAN FRANCISCO (May 4, 2009) – ITDatabase, a privately funded start-up based in San Francisco, today launched the first media research platform specifically for marketing and PR professionals in the tech industry. ITDatabase indexes more tech industry authors (including contact info), publications, blogs, podcasts and video content than any other research product - and gives users the most powerful method for tracking tech coverage trends and managing author relationships.

Other media directories, PR platforms and clipping service "solutions" are not specific to the tech industry. These products promise to simplify marketing and publicity efforts - but in fact miss many important tech authors, burden tech industry professionals with false positives, and do not lead to intuitive discovery of important new tech authors and content. These products also promise to deliver on new "social media" opportunities - but in fact miss many important sources from the tech blogosphere.

"Based on our experience working in tech industry marketing and publicity, we were severely underwhelmed by the available research solutions," said Travis Van, founder of ITDatabase. "These expensive products lure in tech marketers with the promise of simplifying their lives and increasing their results. But when you look past the lofty promises and fancy user interfaces, you consistently see that the research data is pretty lousy. At ITDatabase, we know that the best tech marketing and PR results always come from a comprehensive, roll-up-your-sleeves approach to research data. So we built a tool that does that heavy lifting research data for you, so that you always have the best possible information for your marketing and PR planning."

ITDatabase was founded by Travis Van and Phil Grimm in July 2007. Van comes from a 10 year background in tech industry PR and marketing, working at PR firms like Niehaus Ryan Wong and Page One PR, in-house at the COMDEX and Interop events, and in-house at enterprise software vendor MuleSource. Grimm -- the technical lead at ITDatabase -- worked on real-time operating systems at Intel for 20 years, then Java application development efforts at Nike, Verizon and numerous "dot-com" start-ups.

"The web has created access to a seemingly unlimited amount of news and data, especially when it comes to tech world news," said Michael Coté from tech industry analyst firm, Redmonk. "With this glut of fantastic information, the problem becomes drawing the edges around the information and knowing who's writing about what and when they're writing. ITDatabase does an interesting job of slicing up and faceting the gush of tech news out there; it's handy for gliding through the all the tech news."
